Yet another gear oil thread

GL4 is compatible with bronze parts. I haven't been into a CARC so I can't answer if there are bronze parts there. GL5 oils are usually not compatible with bronze parts. The only GL5 I know that is compatible with bronze is Royal Purple. And I only know that because I have bronze thrust spacers in the rear end of my Model T Ford. It is also possible that GL4 is in the shop manual because that specification wasn't updated. Unfortunately the technical writers at Guzzi tend to copy from older manuals.
Thanks for the explanation. I thought there was something about compatibility with bronze or copper but did not know the details. FWIW the owner manual for the 2021 V85TT recommends synthetic 10W-60 for the engine and synthetic 75W-140 GL5 for both gearbox and final drive.

Moto Guzzi recommended Agip 85W90 for the gearbox. Since Agip is now Eni and no longer sells 85W90 gear oil, what will you use on your next change?

I've never quite understood the "available in your local area" thing, really. Since I'm in the USA (and not Canada, where I understand from this same comment on past oil threads that many oils that we can get here are not available even by mail order in Canada), I can simply punch a couple buttons on my computer, and in two days a busy young man in brown shorts will set exactly the oil I need right on my doorstep, or in front of my garage door. Easier than running into town and trying to find something.

The only time this method (which most of us use for buying very many things) doesn't work, is if you've already drained out the old oil, you don't have any fresh oil on the shelf, and you have a big ride to go on tomorrow morning. I would hate to think that I have to buy oil in the wrong weight or GL rating to make up for the fact that I "chose poorly".

Although the Guzzi manuals do mention "AGIP", they also say that any 10W60 of the right API spec will be fine. 85W90 gear oil is still easily available.
