Flaking paint on crankcases šŸ™

I had this a year ago. Dealer put in a warranty claim to MG who sent a paint repair kit. My crankcases are now perfect and have been like that for a year.

Great, thanks for letting me know, itā€™s good to know the paint repair worked for you.

A quick update on my flaking paint. I went to my dealers today who has just received a paint kit from Moto Guzzi.
The dealer has to pay for the paint kit then get a quote from a local engine painting expert then submit the quote to Moto Guzzi who then looks at the dealers photos of the flaking issues and then hopefully authorises the work to be carried out.
Phew šŸ„µ itā€™s all quite a long process me thinks šŸ¤”
Anyway my dealer and myself have agreed to get the repaint done when the uk riding season is over (October / November ish)
Ride safe everyone and Iā€™ll post again once the repair / painting is completed.

Well my crankcases are finally done. My V100 went into my dealer 5 weeks ago ( I had a loan bike from them for the 5 weeks) and today I picked it up all done and looking good. My dealer Robinsons Foundry in Canterbury U.K, have facilitated a good job on the repair.
It was a shame that it was raining on my 55 mile ride to home as I now have to clean my bike again. Ride safe everyone. šŸ¤©

I have a V100s with 860 miles on the clock and the paint is starting to flake on the crankcases.
Has anyone else encountered this on their V100?
My dealer is contacting MG about this and Iā€™ll report back on this forum on the verdict.
Ride safe everyone.

Hi Wicksgas, Like you I discovered the flaky paint on my 2023 V100. I purchased the bike Feb 24 from Via Motto Sheffield(no longer an MG dealer). Via Motto Brighton assisted and told me to go to MG UK online. I have just finished making an appeal for assistance . The bike has 2.8k miles housed all year in a warm Man Cave, not rideen wet or in the winter. The flaky engine coating was a shock to me. How did you get on?

Just seen your update. Great news. Mine may be a bit more challenging. My warranty expired 12th Jan 25. I am trying to appeal for consideration because I fear the engine will continue to flake and look v bad.

Good luck, itā€™s a shame that you didnā€™t notice the problem before the warranty ran out.

Agreed, but the bike was in winter storage tucked away. I submitted my appeal for warranty clemency based on low useage, well maintained, dry miles only and stored over winter months, nor holding my breath. Your engine respray looks great. My concern is the paint on my engine seems to be bubbling up then peeling off.

Did you buy your bike new in Jan 24 if so they do have a 2 year warranty.
If you purchased it second hand then I guess your in for a long drawn out discussion with MG. šŸ˜±

Based on the scaling visible around each of the flacking spots it certainly looks like poor prep work prior to the painting step. Perhaps grease, oil, mosture, or ?? there are signs that something porevented the paint from getting a secure adhesion to the engine cases. Vibration as well as normal expansion./contraction due to heat cycling was certain to cause the undelying garbage to to come loose and take the paint with it.

I guess one could do some preventative sanding of those areas and over spray with a heat resistant paint and hope for a near match.

Are you looking at my photos? Julian Hall has not posted any photos that I can see?
