They key I'm getting has no transponder installed in it (but it does have a spot for one).

The eBay seller provided the factory code for the cut itself, which is alphanumeric, but also appears to be somewhat useless.

If you actually took the time to read what I gave you, then you would understand that they key you had made, is useless itself unless you are prepared to enter your User Code with it, every single time you go to use that key.

I hope that you know the User Code.

Yes, the bike kept asking me for one every time I turned it on. I followed the instructions to attempt to add a key and I was able to get into that menu.

I'd like two keys with different chip codes if possible because it appears that will allow someone to reset the user code if necessary.

In order to do that, I need a chip with a different code on it and not a copied version of what I have, but finding that seems difficult, hence my inquiry if I should just look for a random used key and harvest the transponder out of that.

If I cannot do that, I will settle for getting AF1 to cut me another key off the one I just ordered and I will program what they send to me in order to get two different transponder codes stored into the bike, but I thought possibly there would be a way to do this that wasn't quite as expensive.

You cannot “harvest” a chip from a Moto Guzzi key. They are cast into the key and I’ve never seen one that can be removed.

All you need is a Moto Guzzi key blank and any locksmith with a side channel key cutting machine (I actually own one in my shop).

Then with an existing already programmed to the dash key, and the User Code, you can then program your second key to the dash on your own.

Personally, I program 4 different keys to mine so I know that I will never have an issue in the future.

Yeah four keys sure would be nice.

This is the key type I got and the seller advised which types of transponders work appropriately.

I guess I'm back to square one in terms of obtaining a transponder with a random code rather than copying what I have. It's good to know if I do get one that I should epoxy it into the body of the key, I had wrongly presumed the plastic covers snapped in around it to retain it.
