California 1400 hanging throttle

An aftermarket product will always be used as an excuse by a dealer or factory rep to not fix or even investigate an issue. It's certainly not right, but they all do it.
Can you put the stock mufflers back on and re-present the bike to the dealership?
Or take a ride to another dealership either before or after replacing the mufflers?
AFAIK they don't have a great reputation, but Motorcycle Mall in Bellville NJ is within reach for you isn't it?

My thoughts exactly! This is one of the reasons I was leery of this brand, who do I trust for AFTER SALES service, warranty and accessories work.
You need to have a dealer you trust. That applies to ANY brand of motorcycle and is not an issue specific with MG.
A bad dealer can make owning ANY brand motorcycle a bad experience.
Guzzi dealers are harder to find, but good Guzzi dealers are not any harder to find than good dealers for other brands.
I personally have had better dealer experiences with Guzzi than I have with Honda.

Motorcycle Mall is a horror show. They ripped my friend off trying to fix her older Guzzi, she had to sue them to get some of her money back. It's a shame also because they moved into a brand new, state of the art facility. It's gigantic and you would think they hire only the best to work on the brands they sell, but not the case. The sales associates are just as lost. I guess I could place the old cans back on but honestly, deep in my heart I don't think that's the issue. People posting about these issues haven't said if their bikes are bone stock or not. But one thing we all agree about, the bikes need to be REALLY, really hot for the issue to show itself. Agostini claims these cans don't need a reflash or retune, just install and ride. I always thought it was a good idea to reflash and add a free flowing air filter and maybe some dyno time. Todd has a system that looks very promising, just a bit expensive right now for me after the holidays. I definitely want to try another dealer, I do trust Eurosports in PA and my selling dealer also in PA Fast by Ferraci. Both places are almost 2 hours away ONE WAY.

I should have been more clear.
I heard bad things about them too, but I meant to just try and ask them for a ECU update, not ask them to troubleshoot the throttle issue. Maybe they'll do it and you can get in and out before they do any damage.

I could do that, but I don't think I want to trust them with my bike, not after what they did to my friend. Just to show you how sneaky they are listen to this. I went into the shop one day last week because they had advertised a low miles Ducati Diavel Strada on Cycle Trader. I believe they listed the bike at 2800 miles, and it is a 2014. When I get there, I get a Ducati "specialist" to take me to the bike. This bike sold for 21,5 k brand new in 2013-2014. They were/are asking 16.9K and the Internet specialist I was talking with told me the bike was MINT. So I get there and they never offered me a test ride. It was like pulling teeth to get me to get the guy to get the keys so I could see the mileage that now reads, 4809, hmmmmm. They wouldn't start the bike to let me hear it telling me they couldn't start it inside the showroom, well ok, how about you roll the bike outside so I can hear if it sounds right? I was bothering this guy it seemed. (and oh yes, he NEVER took it outside) Now I get the "story" how it was owned by a very respectable neurosurgeon and he traded it in for an even more expensive Duc. Well I may not know how to wrench heavily on a bike, but I can tell if a bikes been well cared for or not. With 4809 on the odo, tires were almost bald on the sides and were nearing the wear limits. The right side of the bike showed a drop/scraping. Pannier was scuffed up, along with the bottom of the heat shield AND the top of the brake reservoir housing cover was scraped on the sides. When I start pointing all of this out to the salesman he proceeds to tell me, its a pre owned bike, its going to have some wear on it. I really wanted to blast this guy but he just didn't like me telling him the bike was misrepresented. (even the info sheet they had on the front of the bike had the mileage listed at 2800) Bottom line, they are very shady, George, you are in North Jersey, stay AWAY. I would bet my last buck they wouldn't offer to update my ECU without charging me, and what makes me think they would do the proper job anyway?

Yeah. That's the type of thing I was hearing about them and I was afraid it was true.
The even worse thing is, they're only like 6 miles from me.

I wouldn't bother with them whatsoever. They had a "managers" special 2014 white Cal Touring(new?) for 14,999. In the pre owned section they had a black (2014) touring with listed miles of 995 for 14499. What would you do? I would go new as long as it still has a warranty because the black one definitely was out of warranty.

I got my ECU flashed at the MG dealer early Aug this year but haven't been in a situation yet where the bike heats up in stop & go traffic (like where you're inching up a few feet at a long left turn) to be able to tell whether it resolved the issue or not.

I too doubt it has anything to do with my pipes but I will be able to confirm at some point come next summer if the flash resolved the issue.

Who's your dealer Lou? And what made you get your ECU flashed? Just curious.

Pleasure reading all the posts...

Yarvis, personally, but I ain't no expert, very highly doubt that the the hanging throttle issue is related to the pipes.

As for my bike, it's a 100% stock bike. And I've had the hanging throttle problem without any very hot temperatures riding. Even had it after a cold start...

So will keep you posted as soon as i get the opportunity to update the ECU.

And as for the exhaust pipes... well the Cali definitely deserves an after market; being Agostini, Lafranconi, Mistral or even the exhaust pipes of the new Cali Audace if they can be crossed over. The 1400 V Twin is mute with the original exhaust.

Whilst wishing you all a very Happy New Riding Year 2016... Ride safe!

Thanks for letting me know a stock bike with no pipes STILL has this issue!!! Finally, I got someone to confirm I wasn't nuts. I didn't install my pipes until late October. I had an episode prior to the pipes and one or two after. So me switching back to stock wouldn't fix a damn thing. Except I seem to see my episodes when HOT, HOT,HOT.
Thanks again Jimmy, let us all know ASAP what you do to correct this?

MG did the latest and greatest ECU update just before I got rid of my bike..It did help with the heat and low speed issues.
It was not near the difference as Todds yet it was an improvement..for "free".....As a side note I will be putting my stuff on auction
after new year.....Perhaps a package deal..full exhaust pipe system..fueling..mg lowered gel seat..sissy bar and rack..sport windshield..air filter and modified airbox..two unused spark plugs and brand new rubber "intake boots" Ill get in touch with Todd after 1 January..

Hey Yarvis ... dealer is here in the Toronto area so won't help you in NY :).
The bike was snatchy at low rpm's and didn't like to be below 3,000 rpm so when I heard of a flash from Piaggio I got it done. Run's better at low rpm's and sounds "richer" in tone to me. Negative is I'm pretty sure I lost HP up top and the tach needle doesn't swing up the dial as fast. I'd still do it again regardless. HTH.

I was taking a u turn on the way home from work - down shifted, took the turn only for the bike to lose power and stop. It was the weirdest thing ever. I guess I have to be careful not to close the throttle while downshifting at low speeds ??? Is this normal?

No. Idle is fine. I dropped it off at the dealer. They're going to take a look at it. Happened twice since my last post. It's as if the rear brake engages or the traction control kicks in. The good thing is that it happened to the technician when he took it for a test ride which is usually not the case .

Didn't stall it or anything like that - in fact the bike just comes to a stop like when you're applying the brakes but without actually doing so .. It was really unnerving the first time it happened.
