I would definitely be having words to the valve spring supplier if I was Piaggio. It's not like this is a screaming four cylinder. Why did it fail?
No idea at this stage. The engine is going back to the factory for inspection but I would be very surprised if an answer will be forthcoming to the actual end user! I would imagine it will come under the 'one of those things' headings
 
Seriously? All mechanical systems have a failure rate. All of them. There is no such thing as 100% perfect flawless metallurgy.
Yeah you're right but surely it would be standard practice to double check their whole stock doesn't have a defect?

I would be curious of how much is still actually made in Mandello del Lario. I imagine since Piaggio took over there would be a lot of pressure to have more done at the Piaggio factory. Like everything these days I'm guessing a lot of the electronic components are made in China bit surprisingly I have noted looking at my V7 850 that a lot of the plastics still say "made in Italy"
